Dating is not what I used to know

Maybe because I have been out of the market for a while or because I am a dinosaur when it comes to technology and social media but I have got the feeling that dating is a different world nowadays. I remember it was an arduous endeavor in my times. First you had to choose your clothes, what means no holes in your jacket, no stupid t-shirts, shaving (it was before hipsters started walking around like hardcore farmers in the Far West) and tones of eau de cologne. Then you had to go with your mates for a few drinks before heading to the clubs and finally go and interact with people of the opposite sex. This ritual will have to take place a few times before someone will find you interesting enough to see your brilliant performance at 6 a.m after a good few drinks. And a few more before you actually find someone interested in getting to knowing you better that you feel the same way about.

Well, apparently that is not happening anymore. Now all you have to do is going to the Internet and create a profile in one of these dating sites. And I am not talking about these chats that existed ten years ago where desperate people used to call themselves Hector McMillan and pretend to be a prosperous stock broker who did not have time to date in the real world. They normally ended up with a girl called Jenny who in the first video chat masturbated his penis in front of your very eyes before you could close the window. These sites nowadays are amazing. I happen to know a few people using one in which you can create a detailed profile linked to your Facebook. You can write about yourself and specify what you are looking for. you can actually pass with your finger girl after girl and select in the system as many as you want. And now the best part. If you are selected but any of them you will receive a message in your phone! So you do not have to face the rejection in your face. And the number of people in these sites are apparently unlimited. You can expend the whole day selecting candidates.

This is sheer madness. And you can also set up the application to find people at a certain distance. I have heard that people go to pubs and set the radar to meters so that it will show the people around you who are single and ready for battle. This is the best thing I have ever heard of. The odds of finding a person or just getting laid are much better. It may have a downside though. It may be the end of the anecdotes about night outs and embarrassing seduction attempts. It may happen that we are gonna lose the instinct of wooing, mating. We could end up selecting our partners based on a selection made by a computer. It seems the way to go now. I do not really now if this is a good or a bad thing. Time will shed light on the matter I guess.
